DPP regrets on-the-job gambling

South Australian Director of Public Prosecutions PAUL ROFE says he's regretful thathis on-the-job gambling may have hurt his office's image.

Mr ROFE says he's promised state Attorney-General MICHAEL ATKINSON he'll stop gamblingduring work hours.

The pledge came after Adelaide's Today Tonight program claimed Mr ROFE made numerousvisits to the TAB and several trips to buy instant lottery tickets during office hours.

He says he feels angry and somewhat betrayed by the allegations, but mainly regretfulthat the incident may reflect badly on his office and staff.

He's told ABC radio that he works late at night, and most weekends, but the Today Tonightstory didn't reflect that.

The show claimed Mr ROFE placed bets at a central Adelaide TAB up to 12 times a day.

But Mr ROFE says he must have been winning that day -- he normally only has a bet or two.
